Volunteer Opportunities

  AARP Tax Aides  
  Volunteer Tax Aides are in demand to start training for the upcoming tax season. AARP Tax-Aides provide free, personal income tax assistance and preparation to low-and-middle income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Counselors provide assistance in accordance with policies and procedures of AARP Tax-Aide and IRS grant requirements.  
     
  American Red Cross of SW Washington  
 
  • The Red Cross is looking for volunteer schedulers for blood drives. Schedule a team of greeters, escorts and canteen workers. Time commitment is approximately 4 hours per month.
  • The Red Cross will train those interested in teaching CPR and First Aid.
  • The Red Cross is looking for disaster action team members; training is from two to six hours per month.
  • Red Cross Call Center in need of volunteers.
  • Office help is needed at the Red Cross on Wednesdays and Fridays at noon.
 
  CAP  
  Drivers are needed for Meals on Wheels and Medicaid and Senior Medical rides. Reimbursement is 58.5 cents per mile.  
     
  CASA  
  Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in the court system. Volunteers need to complete an application. Clerical and special event volunteers are also needed. All training provided.  
     
  Catholic Community Services Volunteer Chore  
  VCS is in need of volunteers to drive clients to the grocery store or to medical appointments, run errands and go shopping, lend a hand with housework, take care of yard work, make minor house repairs, cut and/or deliver wood for heating, assist with moving or provide help with necessary telephoning, reading and writing.  
 
  • Help a client connect meaningfully with the community.
  • Receive insurance coverage with serving clients.
  • Get mileage reimbursement for driving clients
  • Learn and practice new skills.
  • Get training, support and assistance from VCS staff.

 
  Historical Homes of the Old West Side  
  Volunteers are needed to do historic research on Longview's older homes. Research is accomplished at the library, City Hall and the County Courthouse. The project is funded by a grant from the City of Longview.  
     
  KLTV Channel 11  
  Production assistants are needed to serve as runners and camera relief. Experience is helpful but not necessary.  
     
  Project Read  
  Volunteers are needed to tutor adult learners with basic literacy skills at the Longview Library. Informal training is ongoing.  
     
  SHIBA  
  State Health Insurance Benefits Advisor program is looking for volunteers to serve as advocates for Cowlitz/Wahkiakum Counties. Training is provided by the Office of the Insurance Commissioner in Olympia. This is a very rewarding and challenging opportunity.  
     
  The Progress Center  
  Volunteers are sought for clerical duties, social events, Auxiliary, fundraising, grounds-keeping, maintenance, cleaning, classroom aides.  
     
  The Red Hat Thrift Store  
  The Red Hat Thrift Store is in need of clothes sorters and cashiers. Sales benefit the Emergency Support Shelter and Parent's Place.  
     
  YMCA  
  Volunteer swim aides/instructors, water therapy assistants, outdoor day camp (special needs).  
     
  Youth & Family Link  
  After School Programs - Link has programs in several local elementary and middle schools. Volunteers are needed to give presentations, teach a skill or help with student's homework.
Walking School Bus - Get your exercise and have fun walking kids to and from school. Promotes Drug Free Communities Coalition.
